I'm not sure why the limit on the zoom range is so narrow. That way the icons could be bigger, and it would be immediately obvious when something pops up in the "bad" column. This means I don't really notice the debuff icons when they appear - again, I have to pause and squint (and often click the little arrow to expand the list when there are too many icons to fit on the portrait).Ī really simple solution: put positive status effect icons on one side of the portrait, and negative status icons on the other. Pallegina always has her accuracy modal going, and then there's Kana and Durance - so I always have a string of icons running most of the way down the right side of the portraits. My characters have buffs up all the time. This could be something that toggles on and off with pause as well. It would be great to have a character's whole model clearly show status effects with a color change - a stunned character could be blue from head to toe. Time and time again I've wondered why it's been five seconds and my guy hasn't cast a spell yet, only to check and see the tiny icon - in a column of other tiny icons, so many of them that some are pushed out of sight at the bottom of the column - showing that he's stunned. Still more helpful would be a function that toggled between the effects and AoE markers - the same as you see when targetting a spell.Īnother nice upgrade would be visual effects signalling combat states, especially status effects. I spend a lot of time with the screen on pause squinting through the haze of a spell effect trying to see who is standing where - clicking on circles to see whose portrait flashes, etc.ĭo spell effects and assorted sparklies function as a single visual layer that could be set to toggle off when combat is paused? That would help a lot. A few ideas that might help clear things up a bit: Wait what do you want? Do you want Calisca portrait to change when you were with her in the beginning and died or you want to use her portrait in your custom character? Because you can use her portrait for custom characters that you made BUT I think her portrait when she is with you as a companion is maybe coded already that's why you can't change it (because you know plot characters like heodan they die). But of course you can just use your custom Calisca portrait for your custom characters and pretend it's her for the whole journey. One legitimate criticism of the combat in this game is that you often can't tell what the **** is going on. You're saying I should put the custom portraits, named portrait_calisca_lg/sm, in the portraits/player/female folder? I will try that!Įdit: I've just tried putting my custom calisca portraits (that I named 'portrait_calisca_lg' and 'portrait_calisca_sm') in the portraits/player/female folder, and it has had no effect, Calisca still has her normal default in game. Originally posted by Legend:I'm sorry, I meant that I want Calisca to have a custom portrait.Īs in, I don't want the default game portrait for Calisca, I'd like her to have a custom one instead. Change the name so it wouldn't conflict with the original game portraits just to be sure. Originally posted by Legend:Hi there! Firstly, this is my first post on this forum, so howdy!Īny help would be massively appreciated, thank you for reading! Can you be more specific? Do you mean you want Calisca portrait in your custom character? Once you make a custom portrait, save it in portraits/player/female or male because that's were you put custom portraits. She's driving me crazy!Īny help would be massively appreciated, thank you for reading! What is confusing me, is that if I completely move the portraits\companion folder to somewhere else entirely (let's say the desktop), her default portrait is still appearing in the game. Then repeating that process for a small picture, 76 x 96 px, and saving it as portrait_calisca_sm.pngĪm I doing something wrong? Or is Calisca somehow an exception and her portrait can't be changed? Saving it to E:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\data\art\gui\portraits\companion as portrait_calisca_lg.png But just to be clear, this is exactly what I'm doing. I'm pretty sure I'm doing the correct thing, as I've custom portraits working for my player. Infact, I'm not sure if it's every companion, or just Calisca, because for the life of me I cannot get her portrait to change. Ok - basically I'm having an issue with custom portraits for companions showing up in-game. Hi there! Firstly, this is my first post on this forum, so howdy!
